Whether you’ve always wanted to play the bagpipes or snare drum, or you’re returning to piping and drumming after some time away, Derwent Scottish Pipe Band welcomes new members of all ages and experience levels.

Tuition in both piping and drumming is provided free of charge by experienced band members in a supportive and encouraging environment.

To get started, aspiring pipers will require a practice chanter, while drummers will need a pair of drumsticks and a practice pad. An initial setup typically costs around $40 AUD.

New learners undertake an introductory training program designed to develop the fundamental skills and techniques required to progress confidently. As students develop, they are encouraged to become playing members of the band and participate in rehearsals, performances and competitions.

Once ready, the band provides the specialist equipment required for performance, including bagpipes, drums and elements of the band uniform.
